Niccolo Canepa has won the first Superstock1000 World Championship race of the 2007 season, also securing victory for Ducati’s new 1098cc v-twin at its first race.
Badovini and Pirro had been holding first and second place but tangled and crashed at the Melbourne hairpin on the penultimate lap, allowing Canepa and Corti to fight for first place.
Van Keymeulen took third place, Aitchison fourth and Baiocco fifth. The race was only run over eight laps after being restarted due to crashes shortly after the start.
