Originally launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the race-bred Suzuki GSX-R Superbike and give Suzuki riders across Europe an opportunity to do battle at world class level, The Suzuki GSX-R European Cup has proved to be a tremendous experience. It has allowed riders like Xavier Siméon (Team Alstare's 2006 European Superstock 600 Champion) to improve their skills and receive well-deserved attention. Because of its success among riders and spectators alike, the Suzuki GSX-R European Cup will be once again taking place this year.

Fruit of the collaboration between the Hamamatsu manufacturer, the Alstare Group and Racing International Promotion, the six-race, one-make championship returns in 2007 after a fantastically thrilling season which saw our own Xavier Siméon take the crown in the last round in Magny-Cours. For its third year, the spirit of the GSX-R Cup remains intact. Nevertheless, a few changes have been made to the rules and organisation. Six races are still scheduled throughout the season, but the Monza round (which took place in May last year) will be replaced by a weekend of thrills at the Dutch circuit of Assen in late April. As far as the general rules are concerned, one major modification has been introduced concerning the age limit for the permanent riders: wannabe participants born after January 1st 1984 will not be allowed to take part in the 2007 Suzuki GSX-R European Cup.

The 2007 calendar is as follows:
- 15th April - Valencia, Spain
- 29th April - Assen, Netherlands
- 27th May - Silverstone, Great Britain
- 17th June - Misano, San Marino
- 9th September - Eurospeedway Lausitz, Germany
- 7th October - Magny Cours, France

Once again, the races will take place on Sundays between the two World Superbike Championship races, while qualifying practice sessions will take place on Fridays and Saturdays.

There is one other point of note: If Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra takes part in either the 2008 European Superstock 1000 or 600 Championships, the lucky rider who wins the 2007 GSX-R European Cup will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join our team. However, if Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra do not take part in the two above-mentioned championships, the winner of the 2007 GSX-R European Cup will get a chance, at the end of the season, to test the bike used by Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra in the Superstock 1000 Championship.

If you want to learn more about the Suzuki European GSX-R Cup, a website totally dedicated to the Cup has been developped and features all the latest news and info about this exciting Championship.
