- Celebrations marking the 20th season of World Superbike racing will continue during the third round of the 2007 series, at Donington Park, from March 29 to April 1.
Donington is where it all started for WSBK, with the championship's first ever meeting being held at the flowing Derbyshire circuit on April 3rd, 1988. This season WSBK makes a happy return to the popular British track for the first time since 2001.
To celebrate this special anniversary, the Donington SBK Paddock Show will display examples of the machines used through World Superbike's history.
But more importantly for many fans, the stars that helped make those machines famous will also appear in a special parade around the circuit on Saturday 31st March from 12.55-13.25 and then on Sunday 1st April from 14.30-15.00.
Riders scheduled to be joining in with the 20th anniversary celebrations, most of whom will appear on track with period machines from WSBK's history, include:
Scott Russell (1993 WSBK Champion) - Yamaha Fred Merkel (1988 and 1989 WSBK Champion) - Honda Aaron Slight (13-times race winner) - Honda Piergiorgio Bontempi (WSS race winner/WSBK podium finisher) - Kawasaki Peter Goddard (two-time WSBK race winner) - Aprilia Marco Lucchinelli (two-time WSBK race winner and 500cc GP champion) - Ducati Davide Tardozzi (five-time WSBK race winner) - Ducati Fabrizio Pirovano (ten-time WSBK race winner, 1998 Supersport Champion) - Yamaha Roger Burnett (first ever WSBK pole qualifier) - Honda James Whitham (WSBK race winner, four-time WSS race winner) - Suzuki John Reynolds (WSBK race winner) - Suzuki Pierfrancesco Chili (17-time WSBK race winner) Crash.net | |
