James Toseland has sealed pole position at his Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team's home round of Assen.
This is Toseland's first pole position this year and his first since Misano last year. Lining up next to him is Lorenzo Lanzi on the Xerox Ducati who out did his team-mate and reigning World Champion Troy Bayliss pushing him down the order to third place.
Rounding out the front row of the grid is Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki's Max Biaggi who has had to learn the new layout of Assen.
Heading the second row is the hard riding Spainard, Ruben Xaus on the Sterilgarda Ducati. He beat Troy Corser on the Yamaha Italia putting the Australian into sixth place despite his fast form earlier in the weekend.
Max Neukirchner riding for Suzuki Germany put in an impressive lap to secure seventh place. Biaggi's team-mate Yukio Kagayama completes row two in eighth place having struggled for grip this weekend.
