250: Locatelli expected to emerge from coma.

The popular Italian veered suddenly off track and straight into a tyre wall for as yet unknown reasons, sustaining serious injuries to his face and left foot in the process. 'Loca' has been in a medically-induced coma ever since, the level of which has now been reduced and the Clinica Mobile reports that he is expected to regain consciousness some time tonight (Thursday).

Once conscious, further checks will be conducted to confirm the absence of any brain damage, and then work will begin on treating Locatelli's facial fractures.

Meanwhile, other examinations have confirmed the presence of right tibia and fibula fractures, plus knee ligament damage and a lung contusion - all of which do not require surgical intervention at this stage. The Gilera rider's left foot is said to be healing 'very well' after an operation on the day of his accident.
